Accolade is a Belgian jacquard wall tapestry depicting the 1901 painting by Edmund Blair Leighton (1853-1922). His works show a great beauty and a romanticism of life in the Middle Ages. Here we see the ceremony of knighthood, where the Queen is placing the sword on the knight's right shoulder. The other members of the court are seen in the background watching the scene, and the scene casts an ethereal light from above on the main subjects.
Leighton was a British painter associated with the Pre-Raphaelite and Romantic styles, specializing in medieval subjects.
