Monet's Bridge At Giverny is a jacquard woven wall tapestry made in Belgium based on the painting of Claude Monet, The Japanese Bridge at Giverny. Monet painted many scenes from his home at Giverny which sits on the right bank of the River Seine where the river Epte meets the Seine. In this work Monet retained a subtle linear perspective channeling the eye into depth; conserving a characteristic of naturalistic painting where the picture plane is conceived as a window through which one looks at a view.
Claude Monet was born in Paris November 14, 1840 but he spent his childhood and adolescence in Le Havre. By 1860 he became friends with Renoir, Sisley and Manet. He is one of the first painters to emerge from the workshop. From 1883-1926 he "father of impressionism" lived in Giverny where his garden inspired him to make his best known works. Monet's Bridge at Giverny was painted in 1899.
